This small square park neighbourhood has always been the locals’ favourite place to relax in. Although initially known for the city’s provincial courthouse, Victory Square is now known for the park bearing the same name where the oldest maple trees in Vancouver can be found standing tall since 1897.
Ever since the courthouse was demolished in the early years of the 20th century, the area became a major construction hub. The Province, Sun and Dominion Buildings were built in rapid succession in the last few years of the courthouse's existence and still remain today. While they are no longer used as newspaper buildings, these buildings remain as a memento of the old days.
